19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a difficult period, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.

Victory also indicates he has won twenty-one titles at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet saved four early break points in a tight third set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
